Carol’s Journey, Part III: Carol and June Face Their Uncertainties

Hi friends,

Carol is facing her uncertainties and getting settled into life at Rebele Family Shelter. (Need to catch up? Read Part I and Part II of her journey.) She’s ready to share another update with you.

Life at the shelter is definitely a departure from having our own home, but I’m so glad to be reunited with June, and not be sleeping in my car anymore. I’m more confident that I’ll be able to keep my job – it’s amazing what a daily shower can do for your self-esteem! The feeling here is great. We feel welcome, and everyone is so friendly, but they’re also really eager for us to get back into housing. Having that support makes the housing search easier, for sure. There’s no room for procrastination or fear or excuses. We’ve already applied for a couple places, but it’s so dang competitive in this town! So we’re just trying to be flexible.

We’re rooting for Carol, and we know you are, too. Shelter life isn’t for everyone; shared living spaces and necessary rules can feel overwhelming to people who are used to their independence. Luckily, it seems like the shelter is a great step for Carol and June. We’re hoping they’ll find a place of their own very soon!
