Dave is a member of the Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) at Housing Matters, where he brings insight shaped by his experiences with homelessness, addiction, and recovery. After enduring a difficult childhood marked by loss and instability, Dave spent many years struggling with addiction while trying to rebuild his life. In 2013, after reaching a breaking point while unhoused, he committed fully to recovery and has remained sober ever since. Dave joined LEAG because he felt called to be part of a community where lived experience can help reduce stigma and create understanding around homelessness. He believes every role matters, and values being someone who shows up, supports others, and helps build community through honesty and service.
People experiencing homelessness should be treated with dignity because they are human beings. It affects everybody. Whether you’re homeless or not, business owners, residents, everyone. I hope we can all remember this when we cross paths with someone who is homeless next time."
